The long-term Photographic Observation Schlieren is a much-recognized unique research project that documents urban development in Switzerland. Over a period of fifteen years, a photographic record of building activity and urbanization processes was conducted to demonstrate how these are altering the character of a typical Swiss suburban community.
Neue Realismen und Dokumentarismen in Philosophie und Kunst
Dokumentarische Kunstpraktiken haben derzeit Hochkonjunktur, ob in Fotografie, Film, Theater, performativen Kunstexperimenten oder Literatur. Über einen »neuen Realismus« wird in der Philosophie ebenso wie in der künstlerischen Produktion diskutiert. Ein postkonstruktivistischer Realismus misstraut der Repräsentation, weiß um die Gemachtheit der Darstellung und will auf die Selbstreflexivität künstlerischer Praktiken nicht verzichten. Doch weder ist den gegenwärtigen Realismen das Begehren nach unmittelbarer Wirklichkeitserfahrung fremd, noch verzichten sie auf Wirklichkeitskritik und politische Intervention. Immer wieder geht es um die Herstellung einer Berührung mit Wirklichkeit und einer Wirklichkeit der Berührung, des Affekts – in der Einflechtung des ›Rohmaterials‹ ins Artefakt, der Restitution einer Erfahrung im Reenactment oder der Arbeit mit Zeugen und ›Experten des Alltags‹ in Film und Theater.
